Coffee Cup Conservation
Coffee Cup Conservation
We’re reminded that each of us can play a part in helping to protect the environment and reducing the detrimental effects of pollution on our precious ecosphere. Every little bit helps.
Coffee drinkers can make a difference simply by switching from paper coffee cups to reusable travel mugs.
Kick the Paper Habit
Did you know that more than 6.5 million trees are cut own every year just to make paper cups? As a result, the world’s rainforests disappearing rapidly – causing a devastating impact on our ecosystem. Additionally, 4 million gallons of water are used in the paper cup manufacturing process, and the fuel used by the trucks, trains and boats needed to distribute them add tremendously to the emission of greenhouse gases.
Even though some paper cups are recyclable, most are not, both because of the coatings used and the fact that wet used cups are not recyclable. The majority of paper cups are coated with a polyethylene resin to help strengthen them – and these carcinogenic chemicals may even leach into your cup of java. Even cups that are biodegradable emit copious amounts of methane gas as they disintegrate in landfills – and 40% of the items decomposing in landfills are paper and cardboard.
Upgrade to Reusables
Be a part of the solution—and upgrade the function of your coffee mug—by getting yourself a reusable cup. For example, a thermal travel mug keeps your coffee piping hot for hours—or if you’re an iced coffee or cold brew fan, cold for up to 24! Can your paper or Styrofoam cup do that?
Here are just a few of our favorite thermal travel mugs:
Available in an array of colors in either a 20 oz or 32 oz size, Avalanche features a twist textured, easy-grip silhouette and keeps your coffee hot for up to 8 hours (or cold for even longer).
The Discovery has a convenient wide-mouthed lid and a carrying handle and is available in small 17 oz or large capacity 40 oz sizes. Its double wall stainless interior keeps beverages at the right temperature all day long.
The distinctively textured Hamilton has an 18 oz capacity, is available in charcoal or red and has a leak-proof lid for on-the-go-convenience— and it’s dishwasher safe too.
Final Point of Brew:
Here’s a cup of Earth Day common sense—you’ll be helping the environment and upgrading the function of your everyday coffee cup by kicking the disposable cup habit and investing in a portable coffee mug. Mother Earth thanks you!
